THE GRAPE VARIETIES OF CHAMPAGNE

Production de champagne Dormans

The Pinot Meunier makes for 35% of the Champagne vineyard. This variety takes up the most part of the Marne Valley. It often reaches a fuller ripening than the other varieties in a difficult year and adapts very well on more clayey soils. Its fruity wines can have a little bit of exoticism on certain lands and highlight the balance between freshness and taste.

The Chardonnay is planted on 27% of the Champagne vineyard. It is the preferred variety of the Côte des Blancs (area of the Champagne vineyard) and more generally of the hillsides facing East. The Chardonnay wines are defined by delicate aromas and a great freshness. These characteristics are the mark of a unique elegance and contribute to the delicacy of the blended Champagnes.

The Pinot Noir is planted on 38% of the Champagne vineyard. It is mainly found on the Montagne de Reims (Reims Mountain), in the great valley and in the Côte des Bars (area of the Champagne vineyard). The Pinot Noir wines are characterized by red berry aromas and by a distinctive power and structure.

Our vines are around 35 years old on average. The oldest is more than 60 years old.
